This dress is composed of two parts: the small straight dress and the blouse, which accompanies it. One can make several small
blouses of various fabrics and colors. That will make it possible to vary the aspect of the costume and have several of them with only one dress.
The small pattern makes half the front of the dress; it will thus be cut with the fabric doubled, the fold of the fabric marking the middle of the front.
The back is just like the front, but it is not indented in the square. The contour is marked at the point Q.
It is necessary to start by sewing the seams of the shoulders. The side seam starts only at the point O; the remainder is hemmed and makes it possible to pass the arms through.
The pattern for the blouse is only half of the front and is cut with the fabric doubled; the back is similar to the front, but it is split in the middle. One closes it by buttons or hooks.
The circumference of the dress, of the arm openings, and the front neckline is adorned with top stitching of cotton thread, heavy silk, or wool. One matches this embroidery either with the dress or with the blouse, or one makes it black or white, which goes with all the hues. With this last method, you will be able to put on Bleuette blouses of the most various colors without harming the whole dress, especially if you made the dress in a dark color: navy blue or dark brown, for example.
It is not necessary that the blouse is made out of thick fabric. One wore the fashion, lately, of delightful small chemisettes of tulle adorned with flowers or dotted embroidery. A white undergarment would be charming with a darker dress or even with white or creme, out of silk, satin, or velvet. That would then make it very dressy and worthy of the greatest ceremonies. But it will be very becoming if one makes it in ivory wool with a blouse of mousseline, of English embroidery, or matched lawn. – Suzanne Riviére.
